"Prefered tool" depends on who you ask, of course... ;-)

I know that there's a sample TRNSED application for swimming pools
made with TRNSYS 14.2 :

Swimming Pool Air Conditioning Simulation This demonstration models the use of heat rejected by an air conditioner as a
     source for heating a swimming pool.

I reckon if TRNSYS 14 was able to do it 5 years ago, TRNSYS 15
should not have forgotten...
