I've
been looking for info on this subject for some time, with little success. There
seems to be lots of testing of combustion efficiency, but little info on jacket
losses and off cycle stack losses. Which makes it difficult to create accurate
DOE-2 boiler curves. But DOE-2's default curves, and in fact the whole boiler
simulation model, is, in my opinion, not particularly
accurate.
I'll
be very interested in what you can find out.

TC 4.7 has been approached with a request for an
insight, studies, articles, or other sources that could assist them in
developing tools, intended for gas customer use, to
estimate:
1. Annual
Fuel Utilization Efficiency or Seasonal Boiler Efficiency
2. Cycling
losses
3. Fuel savings of lowering the operating steam
pressure
4. Efficiency reduction due to oversized boilers
This is an area that doesn't seem to get
discussed much in the building energy arena. I am interested to see what
develops. Please share anything you know.

Jim Willson
